Wow, simply wonderful, the colours and textures are very nice indeed! I agree with Andreea about the girl size though. The light purple glow on the leaves near the trunk bothers me a little. Everything else look great! Maybe you could add a closeup of the girl ;)

This is really beautiful! The texture on the tree, the use of color, the composition, and the way you have shown the light. This is beautiful! :)

 05/07/06 @729

great colors and compostion as always...the contrast between the dark side of the tree and the waterfall seems off to me. Kinda seems like the waterfall is in front of the tree...could be me though...great work. +9

not bad, I'd make the rim light contrast on that big tree even stronger and more evident.

Superb painting.

let's get to the (tiny) minor flaws:
  • would like to have the girl bigger (agree with previous comment)
the hair seems a bit too much
  • There seems to be a lack of depth, perhaps some more myst would seperate the background to the tree and characters up front.
Now what I really like is the colours, the lighting and overall detail.
Wish I could do something like that in 8 hours

Excellent stuff + 9

Wow, you have outdone yourself. Great job.
One crit: The head and paws of the cat are too small for its body.
I love the tree, it's great.

:o
Awesome work, Shyam! First of all, the tree's textures are incredible. It looks so real. Then there are the colours, which are beautiful and pure, and the light looks warm. The waterfall in the background adds contrast to all the green, and helps brighten the picture. The shadows and the highlight look well placed, and both the puma and the woman seems well painted. The background too, which is rather anonymous, helps give the picture its wild nature atmosphere.
But what is that purple light on the plant next to the woman? It looks cool, but I can't really tell where that light comes from, and I feel it doesn't quite fit in with the rest. And about the woman: since the picture is titled "Jungle babe", I kind of expected her to be more in focus. Please forgive me for saying this, but she looks almost hilariously tiny. Her small size compared to the large tree does indeed create a feeling of awe when I watch the tree, but the woman herself gets lost in the image. Perhaps it was your intentions, but I personally don't think it works as well as it could have done.

With that said, this is an incredible painting, congratulations with this one!
And by the way, thanks for linking to the process. ;) It is very helpful for us others.

Shyam you're the bomb! This painting is becoming truly alive by looking at it, gorgeous.
If I really have to crit... the part where the tree touches the waterfall lacks a bit of depth which makes the tree blend in the fall, I think it needs to stand out more.
But still: ~:0

Ruthless critique:

Both characters fade into the background, the light on the tree is the main focus right now

The edge of the tree by the waterfall looks like it's the rocks on the other side of the waterfall, not like a tree, the light wouldn't be reflecting from the waterfall onto that side of the tree so maybe change the color of the reflected light. And it's too bright overall----the reflected light is, especially the higher off the ground it goes the less light it would get

Not enough foreground. The characters are too close to the edge of the image.

The tree branch looks like an arm/hand

The white/purple plant in the shade of the tree looks out of place-like you said: "hmmmm, need something here" It competes for attention with the characters because of the high contrast where the light hits. The warm light on the ground is also distracting and competing.

There doesn't seem to be any wind in the place except what's hitting her hair

One reason it looks a little flat is because the BG is too saturated. Try to separate Foreground, Mid, and BG by keeping them within their own value ranges, by color temperature, by saturation, atmospheric perspective, well designed overlapping, ummm... I know there's more...anyway, use any trick you can

I went over the image in photoshop and made some quick adjustments. Some artists get real sensitive about that so, sorry in advance. And I realize I don't know how to post my image for you anyway. I'll email it to you if you're interested.

After all the "negative" comments I just made I should say I like it the way it is, and most everything I commented on is just opinion, not right/wrong. But if you want to be a commercial artist ( Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Valasquez, all commercial artists) you should be open to popular opinion. If enough people say "the hand doesn't look right" even if you copied it from reference exactly, you need to change it unless you want people to stare at the hand.

I teach and I'm just a critical person so please take this as encouragement.

Peace

Technical Skill:

Impact/impression:

Pros:
Good use of colours
Great design of the tree and the cat
Cons:
Composition is not convincing
Some parts look unfinished
The 'junglebabe' isn't very well painted...
Overall opinion/feedback:
I think you can do a lot better,my friend, with another composition this artwork would be more convincing to me, you have the skill.
According to the points you already have I'm probably wrong, but this was my first impression...and it didn't changed after a second look.
I don't want to be hard,just honest;) +6
